9 Simple Ideas to Bat Your Change Management Blues Away – Podcast 50
Have you every wondered why ‘change management’ is such a stumbling block for organisations of all sizes, in every industry, and around the globe?
Especially since most everyone knows, at least in their hearts, that it’s hard to make progress in any endeavour without change.
After all, most are familiar with variations of the old adages: “If you keep doing things the same way you’ve always done, you can’t expect different or better results” or “you can’t create an omelette without breaking eggs”.
And yet, what happens when material changes are proposed in business?
As the abolitionist, writer, and speaker Frederick Douglas put it so neatly:
“If there is no struggle, there is no progress”
Yep. Putting change in practice is rarely easy. It’s more commonly hard won.
Here’s the reality. The pursuit of change can be slow, or even ground to a halt, when words like resistance, anger, apathy, denial, foot-dragging, nimby (not in my back yard), and more start to appear in sentences.
And if this happens to your business, the upshot is likely to be upset, pain, and even discord – which is bad news for your shareholders, those who work in your business, your channels partners, suppliers, and, most importantly, for your customers…
…Plus, it’s expensive on so many levels: energy, effort, time, and, of course, money!
So what does it take to crack the code of managing change when not everyone’s aboard?
That’s the topic I addressed when I had the chance to sit down with business disruptor, speaker, and change management specialist Steven Houghton-Burnett (AKA The Formula Guy) when he came to speak at a recent Professional Speaking Association Ireland event in Dublin.
Lean in to hear some awesome thoughts on what it takes for business to alter what they do and how they do it – changing the attitudes and behaviours of all during the process.
